Tile Board as top to outdoor table?

We have a patio table with a shattered gl top. Replacing the gl will cost more than the table originally cost. We considered creating a top made of plywood and tile, however, we're concerned that the table would not support such a heavy top (and we've never laid tile before). Instead, today at the hardware store we were given the idea to use tile board mounted on plywood instead. We're not looking for a solution for many years, just to get us through this summer. Do you think this would work? What adhesive would you use to affix the tile board to the plywood?
